Who Are You?
I have been reading Alli Worthington’s new book titled "Standing Strong." In one of the beginning chapters, she spoke about how God created women last, not because we are any less but because he looks at us at the finale to his creation. Women are the finishing piece. The author went on to talk about how as women we tend to identify ourselves by our roles and forget who we are.
This chapter transported me back a few years ago to a broken, messy version of myself who was struggling to figure out where I belonged. I took a chance and signed up for a Rise event with She’ll Rise LLC. The first question she asked of the group of 20 or so women was "Who are you?" Naturally I listed out all my titles and roles. Melanie asked me to share with the group first and after I responded she firmly said "Those are your roles in life, not who you are" in her tough love manner.
Sweet girl, just as Melanie reminded me - you are SO much more than the roles have taken on - from CEO of a thriving company, a mom of 4, a farm wife, a friend, etc. Who are you and what qualities do you bring to the table? Are you creative? Are you kind? Are you fierce? Are you a child of God? Write down three 'I am statements' today that have nothing to do with your roles.
