Busy Isn’t a Badge of Honor

In today’s world, there’s an unspoken competition among us all to be the busiest person in the room. We wear our packed schedules and endless to-do lists like badges of honor, thinking that the more we hustle, the more successful and accomplished we appear. But what if this relentless drive for busyness is actually holding us back? What if, instead of constantly saying “yes” and overcommitting, we learned to find strength in rest and the power of saying “no.”

For many of us, being busy has become synonymous with being important and successful. We equate long hours and full calendars with productivity and achievement. But this couldn’t be further from the truth. True success and fulfillment come from harmony and balance, not burnout.

Busyness often leads to stress, exhaustion, and a diminished quality of life. When we constantly push ourselves to the brink, we neglect our well-being, relationships, and personal growth. It’s time to challenge the myth that busyness is a virtue and recognize that rest and balance are essential for a meaningful and sustainable life.

One of the most powerful tools we have to combat the busyness epidemic is the ability to say “no.” It takes courage to turn down opportunities and commitments, especially when we fear disappointing others or missing out. However, saying “no” is not a sign of weakness or failure—it’s an act of self-care and respect for our own boundaries.

Reflecting on Women’s Rights: From the Moon Landing and Beyond

On July 16th, 1969, as Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin made history by setting foot on the moon, a different kind of journey was unfolding for women back on Earth. In the United States, women faced significant legal barriers; they couldn't own property or obtain a credit card without a man's permission. While the moon landing symbolized human achievement, it also highlighted the stark realities of gender inequality.

As I reflect on this historic milestone, I'm reminded of the remarkable journey of the women in my own family. My Mom-Mom never drove a car, let alone owned one in her name. My Granny's education was cut short when she got pregnant and married at 16. Despite their talents and contributions, they faced systemic barriers that limited their financial independence and autonomy.

The Journey to Unbecoming

From childhood, the weight of an insatiable need to constantly achieve and tick off lists has been my companion. It took years to decondition from the belief that worth is earned through accomplishments. Life is not a checklist; it's a journey of unbecoming everything you aren't.

In this transformative process, I'm granting myself grace. Saying yes to experiences beyond my comfort zone and embracing the joy in simple moments. Less time on structured to-do lists, more on spontaneous activities like baking, cooking, crafting, reading, listening to things that interest me — rediscovering the joy they bring.

Navigating the Balance: Raising Livestock, Personal Bonds, and Dietary Choices

As a farmer who raises livestock, the connection to the animals under your care is profound. Each one of our head of cattle has a personality, a presence that becomes familiar as you go about your daily tasks. Yet, in the backdrop of this relationship, lies the reality—they are meant to serve a purpose, to provide sustenance for those who tend to them.

In a recent conversation with a vegetarian friend, the complexity of this reality hit home. She shared her dietary choices, explaining how she had excluded beef from her meals. I couldn't help but reflect on the intricate balance I try to maintain – the connection with the animals and the acknowledgment of their role in nourishing our bodies.

Harvesting Joy: Being a Mother and a Farmer

Motherhood is a journey filled with love, laughter, and life lessons, and when you combine it with the farming lifestyle, the result is a unique blend of joys and challenges that create a truly fulfilling experience. In this blog post, we'll explore the heartwarming aspects of being a mother in the world of farming.

1. Raising Little Helpers

One of the most beautiful things about raising children on a farm is the opportunity to instill a strong work ethic and a deep connection to the land. From a young age, your little ones can be your sidekicks, eagerly helping with chores, caring for animals, and learning the value of hard work and responsibility.

2. Nature's Classroom

Living on a farm is like having a sprawling classroom at your doorstep. Children have the chance to learn about the cycle of life, understand the importance of sustainability, and develop a profound respect for the environment. They witness the miracle of birth, experience the changing seasons, and develop an appreciation for the beauty of nature.

3. Unbreakable Bonds

The farming lifestyle allows for precious moments spent together as a family. Whether it's gathering around the dinner table to enjoy a meal sourced from your own land or working side by side during planting and harvest seasons, the bonds between family members grow stronger and unbreakable.
