Tagging cattle

Why do farmers and ranchers tag cows and other livestock? Tags allows us to easily identify the animal. From a distance, many of our cows look very similar so this is a quick way of taking note of who is who.

Ear tags can be used for recording information about the animal such as age, weight, gender, when a cow last calved, number of calves she had etc. We have our farm name and contact number on the back of our tags in case one of ours were to venture out of the fence or barn.
